The Best Movies That Are Based on Books in 2019 (part 1)

There are two kinds of people in the Earth: those who watch a movie and complain that the book was much better and those who have not even read the book. Whichever kind you personally identify with, it can’t be denied that the story of a novel that gets the Hollywood treatment is probably pretty damn good.

Here are the books made into films in 2019, so you can read up (or not) before they’re out.

1. Five Feet Apart

Based on the heartbreaking book by Rachael Lippincott, Five Feet Apart will probs wreck you. Cole Sprouse and Haley Lu Richardson play two young people falling in love with each other while being treated for cystic fibrosis.

2. Pet Sematary

Leave it to Stephen King to scare the shit out of you! There’s actually already a Pet Sematary movie from 1989, but because 2019 is the year of the reboot, we’re gettin’ another.

3. After

After is a movie based on a book series based on One Direction fan fiction, which is…truly something. Author Anna Todd started out writing a Harry Styles romance on an app called Wattpad. Then Simon & Schuster purchased the book and turned it into a four-part series, and now, it’s going to be a movie. So wild!

4. The Sun Is Also a Star

Want a love story that will destroy you? Okay, here goes. Based on the book by Nicola Yoon, The Sun Is Also a Star is about a girl named Natasha, whose family is less than 24 hours away from getting deported to Jamaica from New York City. As if this weren’t life-changing enough, she falls in love with Daniel during that time with less than a day to live out a full-fledged romance.

5. Where’d You Go, Bernadette

Where’d You Go, Bernadette is based on the book by Maria Semple. Fifteen-year-old Bee Branch’s mother, Bernadette, goes missing right before the family is supposed to head on a trip to Antarctica. But like, don’t stress. It’s a dramedy.
